Privacy Policy

Who we are

Fate's Hand is developed and published by Spaceman Made ("we," "us," "our"), an independent studio. For privacy questions, see the Contact section at the bottom of this policy.

What information the app handles

Data stored on your device (current version)

The app stores the following information locally on your device using standard browser storage mechanisms (IndexedDB and localStorage). This data never leaves your device.

• Saved characters — when you generate a hero, the app saves it to your device's local database so you can view it later in the Chronicle (library). Each saved character includes a fictional character name (which you may edit), a fictional race and class, randomly generated personality traits, and a randomly generated backstory. None of this is personal information about you. The app caps the number of saved characters at 25 and automatically removes the oldest when the limit is reached.
• Settings — your in-app preferences are saved locally so they persist between sessions.
• Onboarding state — a flag indicating whether you have completed the first-run welcome screens, so they only appear once.

You can delete this data at any time by clearing the app's storage through your device's settings, or by uninstalling the app.

Data we do not collect (current version)

The current version of the app does not:

• Collect any personally identifiable information
• Require an account, email address, name, or login
• Access your contacts, photos, location, microphone, camera, or files
• Use analytics or telemetry
• Send any data over the internet
• Share any data with third parties
• Use cookies or tracking technologies
• Display advertisements

The app requests no permissions beyond standard internet access (which is required by the Android system for future updates and does not imply that data is being transmitted in the current version).

External links

The app contains a "Support the Scribe" button that opens an external link to Buy Me a Coffee (buymeacoffee.com/spacemanmade) in your device's web browser. If you choose to follow this link, you will leave the app and your interaction with the Buy Me a Coffee site is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. We do not receive any personal information from Buy Me a Coffee about supporters; we only see donation amounts and any public message you choose to leave.

Future features (planned for future updates)

We believe in being transparent about what the app may do as it evolves. The following features are not active in the current version but the underlying code is present in the app and may be activated in future updates. When they are, this privacy policy will be updated to reflect their active status, and the changes will be communicated via the Play Store update notes.

AI-enhanced backstories (planned)

A future update may add an optional feature that generates richer, AI-written character backstories. When this feature is active:

• The app will send the generated character's race, class, and randomly generated trait/ideal/bond/flaw to a privacy-respecting server we operate, which will forward the request to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a richer backstory.
• No personal information about you will be sent — only the fictional character data the app itself generated.
• The character name (which you may have edited) will be included so the AI can reference it in the backstory.
• Requests will be subject to a daily per-device limit.
• The feature will be optional and toggleable in Settings.
• Anthropic's handling of these requests is governed by their own privacy policy and commercial terms; we do not retain the request or response data ourselves.

Advertising (planned)

A future update may introduce advertising via Google AdMob to help support the app's continued development. When active:

• AdMob may collect device identifiers and ad-interaction data as described in Google's privacy policy and the AdMob policy.
• We will update this policy to disclose AdMob's data collection in detail before activating it.
• Where required by law (such as under GDPR), the app will display a consent prompt before serving personalized ads.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has interacted with the app in a way that requires our attention, please contact us using the information below. The current version of the app does not collect information from anyone, regardless of age.

Data security

Because the current version of the app does not transmit data, your saved characters and settings remain on your device under the protection of your device's own security (lock screen, encryption, etc.). When future networked features (AI backstories, advertising) are introduced, this section will be updated to describe the security measures in place for those data flows.

Your rights

Because the app does not collect personal information, there is no personal data of yours that we hold or could share. You retain full control over your local data:

• You can view your saved characters at any time within the app's Chronicle.
• You can delete individual characters using the in-app "Banish from Chronicle" function.
• You can delete all app data by clearing the app's storage in your Android device settings, or by uninstalling the app.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app's features change — particularly when the future features described above are activated. The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy will reflect any changes. Material changes will also be communicated via the Play Store update notes.

If you continue to use the app after a policy update, you accept the updated policy. If you disagree with the changes, you can uninstall the app at any time.
